Intel: to launch a full range of chips for the global market
February 28 news, Intel CEO Paul Otellini launched a new Intel layout in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that Intel will cooperate with number of manufacturers in Europe, India and China to launch new smart phone;and it will also released a full range of mobile chips for the global high and low-end market.
Otellini announced that Intel will launch new smartphones with Orange, India Lava and China’s ZTE. Among them,Intel will co-operate with Orange to launch new smart phones which based on Intel Atom Z2460 chip and it will be listed later this summer in Britain and France; the smartphone XOLO X900 which cooperate with Lava will be introduced early in the second quarter this year.
Otellini also announced the Intel mobile chip R & D progress: Z2460 processor which released in January of this year’s will support up to 2GHz frequency; the performance of Atom Z2580 processor is twice that of the previously announced Z2460 chip, the Engineering samples will be released in second half of this year and in the end product will be listed in the first half of next year.
In addition, Intel also introduced for emerging markets, the Z2000 has a cost-effective platform includes a 1.0GHz Atom CPU, support for 2G/3G dual-SIM card. Intel plans to launch this year Z2000 sample, the corresponding end product launch early next year.
Otellini also said that in addition to the current 32-nanometer chip products, the Intel 2013 to ship 22 nm chips, and the 14-nanometer chip technology being developed. In the field of PC chips, Intel occupies an absolutely dominant position, but always slow progress in the mobile platform, smart phones and tablet PCs are widely used by Qualcomm and Texas Instruments chip based on Arm architecture. Intel X86 architecture, energy issues, was once considered unsuitable for mobile devices.
The market research firm Canalys, the latest data show that last year the global smart phone sales of 480 million, for the first time more than 415 million PC sales. This data marks the full arrival of the mobile Internet era, force late Intel is stepping up its layout, trying to narrow the gap with the Arm architecture chip competitors.
In January of this year, Otellini in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) released the first product of Intel in the field of smart phones: hand in the X86-based smart phones X800 Lenovo launched. The phone is based on the Intel Atom Z2460 processor platform, formerly code-named Medfield.
The Z2460 is the Intel chip for smart phones and tablet PCs designed specifically to the successful resolution of the energy consumption of the X86 architecture mobile platforms. In addition, Intel has reached a strategic partnership with Motorola Mobile smartphone equipped with the Intel chip in the second half of this year.
